Ultrasound-guided vacuum assisted core biopsy

Ultrasound-guided core breast biopsy utilizes ultrasound guidance to aid our expert radiologist as they insert a specialized needle into the area of concern, using a local anesthetic. Ultrasound-guided core biopsy is used when more specific information is needed in approximately 5% of masses that undergo ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Ultrasound-guided core biopsy is not utilized to remove the entire lesion. Instead, representative slivers of tissue (cores) are painlessly extracted and examined in the lab to determine which specific treatments are recommended.

Our expert and dedicated radiologists use ultrasound-guided breast biopsy when a breast ultrasound shows abnormalities such as, suspicious solid mass, a distortion in the structure of the breast tissue, or an area of abnormal tissue change.
